Cell Phones As the New Typewriter

It seems everyone has cell phones these days and everyone seems to be texting. You can't go anywhere and not see someone on one. Mobile phones are the wave of the future and what we do on them is ever increasing. At the beginning of this decade cell phones were only used for talking. Now it seems we use them as our own personal typewriter.

SMS messaging or texting as we call it, is basically typing words and sending the message to another phone. Texting has become so popular that the network carriers like to sell what they call QWERTY keypad phones, which means instead of typing from a number pad you can actually type letters just like a keyboard. Some phones actually let you type on the screen themselves through touch pad technology.

Texting was first used as a business tool. It allowed for quick communication without the need to talk to someone which proved very useful when in a meeting or there was simply no time to talk. The boom actually came when teenagers got cell phones and is now mainstream. Kids send text and pictures from their phones to all of their friends and is a primary mode of communicating.

The way we use cell phones is ever changing and as technology grows the more they become a personal PC. More and more people use their phone not only to talk, but type. Text, pictures, and internet browsing, what is next?
