The humidity in the northeast is choking me. My sinuses are stuffed, my skin is shiny and I am clammy. I can do something about all of this though. What I can NOT seem to do anything about is my hair.
It is short and it is curly. In this weather it is shortER and curliER. I came on this trip to my hometown armed with an arsenal of products to prevent the frizz. BUT they're not working. I know the lowdown on curly hair - it is porous and the humidity will cause frizz unless I fill in those pores. Think shingles on a roof with nothing in between them.
I have brought with me curl cream and anti-curling cream, curling mousse and anticurling gel and some de-frizzing stuff that sounds French. Maybe I just need epoxy or spackle. I apply layer after layer of stuff, and finally the hair is looking good. And then I step outside. I swear, I can HEAR it curling. The next thing I know, my bangs are gone, and my hair is so swollen that I look like a walking Q-tip. Very disheartening. If it was longer it might be more controllable (or it could possibly be a lot larger), but I got a 'little trim' before I left - HUGE MISTAKE! Someone DID compliment me on my 'poodle cut' though - wasn't that what they called short curly hair in, oh say, 1950?? And so I continue to pray that the goop will make the hair stay down obediently. I have used enough hairspray that the hair on my arms stays put, so why not the hair on my head? I just don't get it.
Tomorrow it is supposed to be 87 degrees with a great chance of rain. Yay me! And as I write this, the rain again begins to fall. I am a lucky girl.
