Not My Reunion

I went to a high school reunion.  It was not for MY class and not for MY high school.  It WAS for the year before I graduated and for the OTHER public high school in my hometown.  I must say it was fun to get spiffed up and go to an event where I didn't really know anyone.

Not being the shy type, and armed with two friends, I went up to strangers who looked familiar - people whom I may have known from long, long ago (in a galaxy far, far away) - and checked out their name tags. Some I did not know, some I remembered and some remembered me.  Some knew my Spousal Unit from the olden days.  Many introductions led to funny conversations and names from the past.  My friends reconnected with old 'crushes' and I was able to reconnect with an old friend's boyfriend, an old friend's divorce attorney and some guy who said he wanted my phone number and was kind of grabby.

But the funniest thing was a conversation with two women whom I had never met.  One noticed my married last name on my name tag and asked me about the Spousal Unit.  When I mentioned that we are almost divorced, she said that she was divorced after a long marriage.  The second woman, whose name tag had only her maiden name on it, said that she was divorced after a long marriage also, but added that the ex was a cheating, lying, bottom-feeding b*st*rd.  We giggled over her dramatic emphasis and I asked who he was.  She told us that she hates him so much that she didn't even want his name to cross her lips.  I urged her to tell me and she then said  his name to which I replied, "THAT'S MY COUSIN!"  She let out such a loud laugh that the whole crowd turned to look.  I tell you, we laughed all night long over that.  Every time I saw her throughout the night, we would yell, "Hey, Cuz".  No embarrassment, just laughter over how unlikely the whole conversation was.  It couldn't have been scripted any better than that.

So I went into uncharted waters and had a great time, made some new friends, met a new ex-cousin and got my butt pinched.  You never know what's in store for you if you're open to adventure.  It's a comical life!
