I am not a morning person. But this morning I had to leave Ann Arbor, MI, to make the 25 minute ride to Detroit Metro Airport to pick up my daughter who was flying in on Spirit Airlines from LAX. We are here to visit over the July 4th holiday.
Before I left at 6:30 AM for her 6:50 AM arrival, I checked the website and the plane was on time. I got to DTW and there was no plane. I called her cell phone and it was off which in this day and age means that she was either dead or had it off for the flight since no young person ever shuts their cell phone off unless they have to.
I called the airline. I got a man in Moombai. I LOVE when this happens. I told him the flight number, that it was from LA to Detroit and he proceeded to repeat my words back to me, and then tell me exactly what the computer had told me - the flight landed at 6:50. I told him that I was at the airport and there was no plane and he told me that was impossible. Now, it is early, I am caffeine-free and I am cranky. He is not helping. I told him he was wrong and he told me to call back in 15 minutes.
I called back in 5. I got the same man. At least I think it was the same man. What are the odds that there are two men in Moombai named Sean? Anyway, we proceeded to have the EXACT same conversation as the previous call. When I told him there was no plane, he got a little heated with me and then he checked further and told me, oh yes, they left late and had not landed yet. I was about to get ugly with him when a call came in from the daughter!! She had landed.
It turns out that they had left late since there was no flight crew. Screaming kids who kicked her seat back on the red-eye made for an ugly flight AND they charge for ALL drinks, and no cash, credit only. Sheesh. What can we count on these days? I guess if we set our expectations low enough, we won't be disappointed. But I HATE living that way. All I want is someone who has the responsibility of answering the phone to have the information at hand, updated. I thought computers would do that, but I guess not. Maybe the pilots should post the accurate info on Twitter. But then again I don't tweet. I have to look into that....
