The Beauty of The Library

While I love the internet, I love the feeling of a book in my hands.  The anticipation of seeing what is behind the cover, the smell of a new book, the limitless expectations of being taken on a journey, of learning something new. There is no other store in which I would rather be than a bookstore. But in these economic times, and in these ecologically aware times, the beauty of the library becomes even more evident.

When you walk in the door, there is a calm that takes over. The whole world is before you in the travel section. New friends await you in the biography section. There is nothing that you can not find or learn about in the public library. And if a book you want is not there, they can order it for you from another branch, or tell you when the user who has borrowed it is scheduled to return it.  And you can check on this from your home computer!

The children's section is especially appealing these days with beautiful displays and small tables and chairs that invite the children to come in and stay a while. I think it is so important to get kids to enjoy reading from an early age. I know my parents did that for me.

The library of my youth has grown.  It includes computer access, movies on DVD and tape, music, lessons and travelogues in different media. Truly, the world is before you.  You can read more about the beauty of the library at the following: http://www.ireadgoodbooks.com/2008/11/07/the-beauty-of-the-library.html
