OK, kids. It's the Grand Finale, the Big One. Ed vs. Kiptyn for the fair Jillian's heart. How can her 'heart hold up" when she has to send one of them home?
She says it's been a rocky journey, there are lots of doubts still, and that she has done everything she swore she'd never do. But she's proud to have the 2 guys she loves. Huh? The 2 guys meet her family - mom, dad, cousin Tori and Grandma - in Hawaii.
Ed knows this hasn't been easy for her, and there was the pressure that led to his "power failure' on their special night in the fantasy suite. But cousin and Granny think Ed's handsome. He tells how he left because of his job and then realized he couldn't function without her, so he called the producers to get back on the show. Mom grills him with some questions and is pleased at how Jill glows and how he made the choice to return. And he tells the dad that he loves her and wants to marry her. Then, complete with grass skirts and coconut bras, Ed and Dad Jillian and her cousin hula their way around the property.
Kiptyn visits and the family members squeal like it's been 50 years since their last visit!! His chemistry with Jill is in evidence - they are all over each other. Mom thinks Kiptyn is more like Jill, Grandma is overwhelmed and the cousin is glad that work is not the most important thing in his life. Dad asks if he is in love with Jill and Kip says he is getting there much faster than he thought he would. Deflect much?
But she is falling in love with two guys. Cousin Tori says Ed is super well-rounded and more professional and work oriented like Jill. But Kiptyn is balances her nicely with his unique love of people and life. Mom says they are both there for the right reasons and that she is drawn to Kiptyn's energy and Ed's control and reserve. No help there! Dad says that Ed said right out that he loved Jill and wants to marry her. He is comfortable with Ed's sincerity and thinks Ed is deeper. Then Jill and cousin Tori step out for girl talk and Jill confesses she has concern about Ed's power failure of the past and how about a sign from God?
Last dates. Ed is nervous and wants Jill. There is not much more for Ed to say - he has laid it all our there. He brought his parents to HI to meet her, and he told her he loved her. Al that worries her is the passion. They go on a helicopter over a volcano and then end up at a beautiful waterfall and lagoon. Nature and romance. He tells her he would "never do it again" and then in response to her puzzled look says, "leave you again". You could hear women all over America sigh! In the lagoon there was all kinds of romance and emotion. Later they cuddle up at his place and he tells her he wants her to pick him - SIGH. The chemistry was definitely there and as we close this intimate scene we see an erupting volcano - true production value and very 1950's!
The date with Kiptyn starts on a speed boat and then onto a surfboard where they paddle to a private beach with a picnic basket in tow. Lots of kissing and rubbing and paddling in the ocean. No food though. I get a snack and wonder what was in that basket. She then goes to his place and he tells her he is stressed about losing her if she chooses Ed. He is falling for her and sees a future with here and wants her to move to CA and be a part of his life. Kissing, snuggling and cut to waves hitting the shore.
Jill wakes up on the day, and, on the balcony, ponders her choice. Kiptyn is the perfect package for her, a gentleman, sweetheart full of positive energy. He has always been the dumpER, not the dumpEE and still she trusts him. And there IS that physical connection And as far as Ed, while she is not happy he left her, she knows he will never let her down like that again, and she is so happy to know that the passion really IS there. Cue the spewing volcano!
She is scared to send someone home because they 'both fit right'. Now the editing gets fierce. Kiptyn on the balcony, pondering. Then it's choosing a ring with Neil Lane. He picks a big one and then he and his 6-pack abs do a workout. Ed sees them married, and, wearing a shirt that looks like a pizza parlor tablecloth, goes to choose a ring. Kiptyn in a towel, shaving. Ed in a tree, thinking with the ring that, should he drop it, is lost forever! Jill teary-eyed about sending someone home. Kiptyn nervous and dressing. Ed in his undies and socks, knows she is perfect.
CHRIS HARRISON SHOWS UP! He is at the limo stop to take the men to Jillian. SO on a platform at the far side of a pool with Hawaiian plants all around, Jill stands in the hot sun, knowing and confidant. A limo pulls up. How can she send away someone she loves? Here comes Kiptyn. Chris leads him out (don't overdo your job, Chris) and he walks to Jill, all nervously excited to ask for her hand in marriage. He reviews their great times, and tells her he sees a future with her and says, FINALLY, "I love you". She tells him how wonderful he is and how he has the spark that she has been looking for and...she is in love with somebody else. He says all the inane things you would expect a man to say when he has been rejected - how this hurts, that he is a man and has to get through this, that Ed is lucky. She walks him out to the limo. He looks sad and disappointed, but mostly he looks hot and sweaty. But wait - we still have 30 minutes to go!! Hmmmmm
Ed is on his way, but wait! A taxi pulls up and Reid gets out - Reid who couldn't commit! Chris escorts him out and Jill is rather stunned. Long hug, he admits that he was an idiot, and NOW he tells her he loves her. NOW? She looks weak and sweaty hot. He goes down on one knee and she tells him to get up. She tells him she is confused. NOW I AM CONFUSED! She goes inside to think and he stands out there and sweats. Next scene, Jill in the air conditioning, Ed in the limo and Reid waiting. Chris Harrison sits beside her and I can't help but wonder if HE is going to propose too. He helps her by telling her that she knows what she is going to do. Is he Yoda now? Soooo - she goes to Reid and tells him no, and he has the nerve to say that this makes no sense. He was following his heart , did what he had to do and maybe it was a little too late - YA THINK?? I could have smacked him.
And now, freshly powdered and coiffed, she waits for Ed while we hear her say how sure she is about him. Ed arrives and Chris sends him on his way. Ed tells her how wonderful she is. He knows he loves her but has to know if she loves him. She tells him she has no doubt. Mega-kiss then down on one knee he goes. She squeals at the sight of the ring and accepts his proposal. Cut to scenes of them throughout the season. He accepts the final rose and she jumps on his back and away they go!! DO NOT LET ME WATCH THIS NEXT SEASON!!
