BUTTER

Yesterday, I was volunteering at The Wellness Community, which I have mentioned before (http://www.twcvv.org/).  I truly love this place and what they do there.  It was an odd day - we had some computer trouble and, since we had to stay off the computers, we got lots of manual labor done in anticipation of a little construction project, and, it being Friday, we didn't want to start anything new so a few of us opted for a movie at the end of the day.

We went to see Julie and Julia, which stars Meryl Streep and Amy Adams.  Meryl Streep is incredible.  She inhabits the spirit and presence of Julia Child.  She captures her exactly as I remember.  But even more, we get to see into Child's personal life and Streep's portrayal makes Julia Child absolutely endearing and lovable.  Miss Child may well have been so, but we never got to see that part of her on air, as I remember.

Watching the cooking and then seeing the wonderful dishes that were created made us incredibly hungry.  And the film's emphasis on butter made us hungry for rich, non-diet, calorie- and fat-laden real food.  We decided the next logical step was dinner. And so we walked to one of the restaurants next to the theater, the one with the 'French-est' feeling.  BUT, it being 2009, the food was healthier than we wanted!  Yes, three women of different ages, all of whom are constantly on weight-patrol, wanted rich sauces made with BUTTER.  They were not to be found.  Ah, but what DID come out to our table was a basket of steamy, crusty rolls, and a BUCKET of butter.  Did we indulge?  You bet our fat a**es we did!!  Gotta love that Julia Child!

Love to see more of this! Everything is so business like during these times, this was certainly a refreshing story! Thank you

I loved this story and it hit right. We are so used to having margarine because we think it is better for you than butter. I had a e-mail the other day that says "Margarine is just one molecule from being PLASTIC" now you know why it doesn't melt on your toast.
