Confusion Everywhere...

Sometimes the English language is just one big puzzle. We often don't think twice about the words we use, but if we actually took half of the expressions in our language literally, we'd end up tied in knots...well, NOT literally, but you know what I mean. The classic example is the parkway and driveway. Of course, we all know that we drive on the parkway and park in the driveway. But why? Why did these words ever come to be? Whoever created them is probably off somewhere snickering to themselves about the silly people who don't know where to park or drive their cars.

Why would a parkway ever be called a parkway and a driveway is called a driveway? You drive on a parkway and park on a driveway.  While a parkway might have trees and flowers alongside it, there is no playground, no baseball fields - nothing to do with parks.

Driveways might possibly make a little more sense since you drive on it to get to your garage,  but many people just park their car right there in the driveway. Doesn't it make the driveway and actual park-way?

It's just an example of how crazy the English language can be. We may never understand why the words are the way they are, but at least it's not likely that anyone is going to get confused and try to park their car on the parkway. Fo' shure! And whassup with you today?
