Reality television is not really a new thing. Long before there was "The Bachelor" and "American Idol," Allen Funt loved to pull pranks on unsuspecting people on "Candid Camera." The game shows, "Beat the Clock" and "Truth or Consequences" both used practical jokes and crazy games to entertain us at home. If you really think about it, "Miss America" is a reality show, and it’s been around since 1954.
The predecessor to today’s "The Bachelor," is the 1970’s "The Dating Game" and don’t forget that silly "Newlywed Game." Now that was a funny show! Today’s reality television dates back to 1988 and the show "Cops." This was created because at that time the folks in the Writers Guild went on strike and it gave people something to watch. Then came the "Real World" on MTV. This show has recently entered its 22 season. People have been watching this show since 1992 and they have a contract for four more seasons.
"Scream Queens" is a reality TV show that searches for people with the ultimate scream. Not only that, they are making a "Scream Queens 2." If you can scream, here is your chance to break into the Hollywood spotlight. Reality shows are vastly creating new stars and new viewers everyday. With the success of shows like "American Idol" and "The Hills" reality TV shows no signs of slowing down.[Kind of sad, isn't it?]
