The Lighter Side Of Reality TV

Reality TV began way back in the 40s with Candid Camera. Allen Funt is no longer around but reality TV sure is. The genre of reality TV today encompasses virtually every aspect of life.

You can watch stars living day to day, as in The Osbournes or 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians'. Currently there are dozens of reality shows which give you more to laugh at than Candid Camera ever did. '30 Seconds of Fame' gives the average person thirty seconds to show the country how talented they are. Many contestants do quite well but others will have you rolling on the floor. 'Airline'' lets you watch the day to day workings of airport terminals, and the strange people who travel these busy halls. Shows like 'Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations' and 'Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern' show you just what not to do or eat when you travel.

Then you have shows like 'Dirty Jobs' and 'Myth Busters', where the stories are real and a lot of what happens is not planned but is very funny. Shows like 'Big Brother' give people a chance to show just how they interact with others under strange situations. They are not always nice to each other but they can be very amusing when their schemes backfire. Talent shows are some of the most entertaining reality shows around. 'American Idol' and 'So You Think You Can Dance' help people showcase some very impressive talent but it gives us the chance to see some really odd performances.

Reality TV does offer a lot of educational (?) and entertaining programming, it also provides some of the best side splitting humor around.
