Over the years some popular television shows that have hit our TV screens have been reality shows. Reality shows are unscripted situations that are usually funny or dramatic and instead of actors it contains real ordinary, every day people.
For example, "Dancing With the Stars" which consists each season of pairing up professional ballroom dancers with various celebrities. Each week they are scored by a panel of judges after performing different themed dance routines. Viewers at home can then vote for their favorite couple over the internet or by phone. The couple who receives the lowest scores each week will get voted off, this process continues until there are only three couples left, which then those couples will go onto the finals, ultimately leaving one couple who then becomes that season’s winners.
Another extremely popular reality show is "American Idol." "American Idol" debuted in 2002. This show involves searching for America’s best singer in the country by conducting a series of auditions. After the contestants are chosen they perform each week to different themes of music. The performance is in front of a panel of judges and a live audience. As well as "Dancing With The Stars," the viewers of "American Idol" can call in and vote for their favorite singer. Following a similar process, the contestants are voted off each week that receives the lowest number of votes and it continues like this each week until at last getting down to one person who will become the winner for that season.
