I have made a trip back to the mid-west. Ann Arbor, Michigan, to be exact. Why would anyone choose to go there in January? The wedding of a good friend's daughter. Why would anyone plan a wedding for the season of blizzards? Beats me!
My first full day there, I woke up to a beautiful snowfall. I went outside and scraped the windows of my rental car, and took off to meet friends for lunch, It was fun, being out there in the snow while it fell softly all around me, fresh, clean, exhilarating. I left the restaurant and proceeded to scrape the windows again, still glorying in the beauty that is winter. I had to scrape because the snow that had defrosted had frozen as soon as I turned off the car.
I drove to visit another friend. When I left her house, I had the fun of brushing the snow off the windows while looking all around me at the snow sparkling on the tree branches. When I went out to meet friends for a glass of wine, it was getting dark, the wind was blowing and my face hurt. Scraping he windows was something I just wanted to get done so I could get in the car. When I left THAT house, I had to scrape hard to get the ice off the glass so that I could see. No longer the soft snow, it was crusty ice stuck to the glass AND the windshield wipers so that using them just made it worse.
When I left that last restaurant, I had to brush and scrape, the car seat was so cold it was actually hard and I was crying with cold. My nose was dripping and freezing instantly. My lungs felt like they were going to burst. I love the winter!!
