I am on my way back to CA from my failed attempt at finding a place to live in my beloved hometown. I flew out to New York on the redeye, something I hope never to repeat. My soon-to-be-ex Spousal Unit thinks that is a great way to travel is beyond me - it took me 3 days to catch up on my sleep. He booked the trip using his freebie miles so what could I say in my effort to be gracious? I flew through Atlanta so I did not have enough time on either leg of the journey to get a good amount of sleep. On one of the flights which was full to capacity, each seat had its own television. They all worked EXCEPT MINE. And the controls for the reading lights are on the TVs. So there I sat - couldn’t read and couldn’t get to sleep.
Now on the way home, I am on the same route. My carry-on which was fine on the way out, was all of a sudden deemed too big and so the gate agent slapped a tag on it and gate-checked it. I took this laptop out ‘just in case’ but not the jewelry or the MAKEUP. I don’t mind gate-checking something because it is there waiting for you on the jetway when you land with not too much man-handling. BUT NOT IF THE BIMBO CHECKED IT THROUGH TO THE FINAL DESTINATION!! Add to that the fact that the TVs all worked, but not with any sound and perhaps you can sense my frustration. Oh yes, I was sitting in the middle of a group of adult Russian immigrants, new to the US, with their name tags on, NONE of whom spoke any English which is not a problem for me but it became a problem when we landed and stopped a good distance from the airport waiting to be allowed to taxi in. They did not understand that you had to “stay seated until the captain turns off the seatbelt sign” and that was QUITE a fiasco. Apparently hand signals in Russia are different than other international hand gestures - we couldn’t get them to understand that they had to sit down.
So here I sit on the second leg of the trip, hoping and praying that when I land, my you-can-not-carry on bag is there with nothing missing. Besides the jewelry and the makeup, there is my camera, my curling iron that I use to uncurl my curls, and MY MOISTURIZER AND EYE CREAM. Any ladies reading this know the importance of these last two items. But on the bright side, I have both picture AND sound on the TV!! Gotta count those blessings!
