Funny True Stories: What Makes Them So Popular?

Everyone has heard a few funny, true stories in their lifetime. What about these stories makes them stand out from other funny stories? Does the fact that they actually happened somehow make them more amusing?

Nearly ever person on Earth loves to hear a true, funny story from a friend. Since you know the person and can  relate to them in one way or another, it tends to make the story that much more interesting. Rather than being "that one guy that did the one thing," it is now someone you know personally telling about a situation you can relate to. It is something you can share with them and laugh about. Sharing laughter among friends is a great way to connect and become closer.

Even if you don't know the person in the story, just knowing that it is true makes it somehow more interesting. Think about it, would you rather hear a story that you know happened to someone, somewhere or hear a story about a made-up person that never happened? Perhaps it makes people feel better about themselves to hear funny, true stories that happened to other people. It makes people feel more "human" when they make stupid mistakes if they know that others are having the same things happen.

Next time a funny thing happens to you, write it down. You can tell your friends and it will be written down for future children or friends to read and laugh about. Everyone loves a great story, even if it is a little embarrassing!
